An experienced rapper and television celebrity famous for his $150,000 diamond encrusted teeth. This phrase can’t even begin to encapsulate the giant known as Lil Wayne, one of the most famous hip-hop artists today. His name is known all over, a name that carries behind it a quarter of a century’s worth of experience in the music industry.

Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., or as we know him, Lil Wayne, started his musical career at the young age of 9 years old. He was signed into the label Cash Money Records, as its youngest member, and along with B.G., formed a group called “The B.G.’z”, the first of a number of groups that he would later associate himself with before going out on his own. His first solo venture, an album called “The Block is Hot”, contained many Lil Wayne songs that became very popular, pushing the album sales to 1 million copies around the U.S.

For Lil Wayne, new song after new song brought him success, and further developed his style and maturity. Even though early into the 2000s, he was criticized for his album “Lights Out”, Lil Wayne songs are still popular today, and continue to be the inspiration to many hip-hop fans.

But for all the good in his life, there were also bad moments. He accidentally shot himself at the age of 13, using a .44 caliber handgun. He was then shot again, at age 19, this time by some “groupies” while he was riding his bus, whose windows probably saved his life.

And most recently, on March 8, 2010, the court found him guilty for marijuana and weapons possession. He was showing very good behavior during his first few months in prison, and would have paved the way for a possible early release, had it not been for another setback. This time, it is in the form of contraband discovered in his possession, that of a MP3 player, charger, and headphones.

Nevertheless, fans and critics alike are expecting the artist to bounce back in his career, and achieve the same popularity that many Lil Wayne songs have previously achieved once again.
