One of the most productive moves that you can do if you have spare time is to work on the maintenance of your garage by installing an epoxy based garage floor coating.  This provides protection to the floor and also makes the floor safer to walk on and work on. Most garage floors are made of concrete which. of course, is very hard and long lasting. However, the hardness of this material has two drawbacks that need to be overcome. With the help of an epoxy floor coating, both of these concerns are addressed adequately.

The first potential drawback is possible damage to the surface of the floor surface. Because concrete cures and turns into a very hard and brittle material, it cannot withstand a hard strike from a heavy object. That’s why it is likely that a chunk will be chipped out of the surface if this happens. Such divots are eyesore and they also make it hard to roll tool chests or creepers on the floor. This can also be the cause of the crumbling of the concrete.  Once there is damage to the surface the holes just become larger and larger over time.

The second drawback is the absence of traction when water and petroleum products mix on the surface of the concrete floor. Imagine putting a slab of warm butter on a hot knife, the butter will simply slide off because there is no traction. It is the same with water on an oil spot.  When you step on the mixture, your feet will slip out from under you and you will hit the floor hard.  A lot of accidents at home are caused by this problem.

Using a garage floor coating system that is epoxy based is the solution for these two drawbacks of having a concrete floor. First, by having an epoxy coating, the surface will become very tough and durable so that the concrete is protected from any chipping if something heavy falls on it. As a matter of fact, after the epoxy is cured, you can even do welding on a work bench and the sparks won’t hurt the surface. Also, the moment you roll out the coating and you spread the traction material on top, the floor is going to give you great footing even if oil and waters are mixed.

Applying an epoxy floor covering is well worth your time and effort.
