It has often been said that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend”, however does this apply to all diamonds, including lab created diamonds? It is definitely a possibility, since they are not only very similar to those found in mines, depending on the quality and cut, but they are also very hard to tell apart from diamonds that have been mined from the earth. But first, let’s take a trip through the process of lab created diamonds, shall we?
Just like mined diamonds, lab created diamonds only become useful once they have been cut and of course, graded. As with natural diamonds, they are looked at microscopically after they have been molded, to see how clear they are and/or what type of flaws are contained within each piece. They are normally cut, much like mined diamonds, into smaller pieces with high-tech lasers. After the lasers cut them to certain, specified sizes each diamond in the rough, so to speak, is then cut further into the crystalline shape that is desired for setting in precious metal or other jewelry-designed products. It is not unheard of that a bride will have them designed to run along the seams of her wedding dress either, since they can be so close to looking like the real mined diamond that they sparkle just as bright, thus affording today’s bride a luxurious way of adorning her wedding gown.
The other thing to consider, once a diamond has been cut and graded is whether or not you are purchasing it for long-term usage or for something to give to a person for a nice present, that might otherwise find it’s way to the bottom of the sea, should it become lost during an ocean side romp. You can find a cheap piece of jewelry at any number of shopping stores but if you want something a bit more elegant you will need to go to a fine jeweler in order to take a look at what they have to offer.
