For most women, menopause does present some challenges but for the most part, the symptoms are manageable. A lot of women report the “normal” symptoms of hot flashes, dry skin, vaginal dryness, loss of sex drive, and sleep problems. There is a regular laundry list of symptoms associated with menopause and although they can be irritating and present some challenges, for most women, they don’t arise to the level of requiring medical treatment, but for a small group of women sometimes the symptoms may actually require medical intervention. For these women, debilitating clinical depression and anxiety may present significant challenges. Also, some women experience extreme hot flashes.

If you find yourself having real emotional difficulty while transitioning through menopause, realize that this is not an uncommon symptom. Although most women will not experience these emotional issues, enough women have reported these symptoms to know that it can indeed be linked to menopause, so know that you are not alone. Do not hesitate to talk about your problems with your doctor so that you can begin treating your condition immediately. Both depression and anxiety can be treated with medications and talk therapy can also be an effective tool in managing symptoms.

Another extreme menopause symptom that may require medical treatment is hot flashes. Although hot flashes are unpleasant, not all hot flashes rise to the level of those requiring medical intervention. The hot flashes requiring a doctor’s care are the kind that can dramatically impact quality of life. These hot flashes may occur frequently or be of such intensity almost to the point of being intolerable, they can also cause night sweats causing the women to not be able to sleep. There are a few treatment options available for hot flashes, but realize that only severe cases will need this kind of treatment.

If you feel that you are having a particularly hard time transitioning through menopause, do not hesitate to consult with your doctor.

It is surprising that there are not more female hair restoration products on the market considering that 40% of the cases of hair loss are in women. Part of the problem has been that for years women did not want to bring attention to themselves as having thinning hair problems. It was socially unacceptable for women to talk about those things in public so it was not brought up. Consequently, for years, the only option for dealing with hair loss has been to buy a wig or wear a hat. Neither of these are good solutions today as women are on the slopes, on the water, and in the mountains.

Finding female hair restoration products has not been easy but there are a few available. The US Food and Drug Administration has recently approved the drug Minoxidil as a treatment for female balding and hair thinning problems. This drug has been used by men for several years at a 5% solution strength but women can also use it but at a 2% strength. It should be noted that several women over the years have used their husband’s 5% solution with no known problems but the FDA only recommends 2%.

Minoxidil was originally slated to be a high blood pressure medication. During human trials it was noticed that subjects with male pattern baldness, androgenic alopecia, saw an improvement in their hair loss when taking the drug. Many men actually saw some re-growth. The drug works for high blood pressure by increasing the cross section of the tiny blood vessels known as capillaries. This causes less back pressure against the heart pumping and the overall blood pressure reading goes down as a consequence. It appears as though this is one of the effective hair loss remedies because this action also increases blood flow to the hair follicles which allows the hair to stay healthy and continue to produce keratin the hair shaft material.

Losing one’s hair is never a good thing and can be quite concerning but at least now women have a hair restoration product which can help them in their battle against the bald spot.
