When it comes to furnishing your house, apartment, office or any other area you’ve decided to enhance, there is one main question you’ll need to ask yourself when beginning a project of this magnitude; Will I be purchasing brand new furniture, or would second hand furniture be more suitable for my personal needs?

Of course, there are other considerations, but that question will certainly be your guide throughout the entire process. Furnishing your home or apartment need not be as painful as a rotten tooth extraction, and knowing what you’re looking for going into the journey will go a long way toward making it an enjoyable experience.

Personally, I’ve never been a fan of visiting furniture stores. The sterile environment of these places tends to remind me of boring trips I’d have to make with my parents or grandparents when I was growing up. Second hand furniture on the other hand has a personality that can only come from the uniqueness and character found in individual, one-of-a-kind home furnishings.

Once you’ve settled other major considerations like; how much you’re willing to spend, what room(s) in the house will you be shopping for, who will be climbing all over this furniture, etc. Then you can set out to start visiting various used furniture shops and second hand boutiques, to see what they have to offer.

Second hand thrift shops like goodwill, Salvation Army and the likes tend to have a few used furniture pieces to choose from, often at extremely affordable prices. Finding the closest shop to your particular location can be as easy as an online search engine query, or simply thumbing through a copy of the phone book.

Regardless of whether you decide to purchase new or used furniture, you’ll undoubtedly come across several pieces that ultimately hold your interest. The process itself of furnishing your home can be rewarding and satisfying on many different levels…
