Water is a necessity for life, but not in a flooded basement. Most people have at one time or another experienced the unfortunate disaster or inconvenience of flooding. Flooding can occur outdoors or inside a residential or commercial building. Even with insurance to cover a loss–flooding can be devastating, costly, and ugly. What precautions can be taken to prevent flooding–if anything? Sump pumps were designed to alter the course of water and keep it in its place–outside where it belongs and not in your building. Both commercial sump pumps and residential sump pumps are a resource not to be overlooked in fighting the danger of unwanted water.

All commercial buildings with a basement need commercial sump pumps. Business corporations, retail stores, or organizations have assets and property to protect. Water is an enemy if it floods out valuables and property, such as computers or electronics, furniture, files and documents, or forces a building to close. Effective and durable pumping equipment is vital. Having a pump that is built to carry the heavier load of a commercial building is needed. These pumps are built with an exterior of high quality cast iron. They also are built for longevity–including a vertical sump pump float switch. Motor seals and rubber sealing boots are not used for this reason, which is a beneficial factor. If equipment has fewer parts, it has fewer reasons to break down and gives it longer life. The equipment is also sprayed completely with a high-grade epoxy in order to keep the parts from deteriorating or rusting. Even the smallest parts, like screws and bolts, are made of durable stainless steel.

Finally, commercial sump pumps need to have plenty of power or amps. Commercial buildings often have much more surface square feet, and the amount of water that could occur from flooding is much greater. Pumping capacities are a main factor when deciding on which pump is the most effective for a commercial building.
