Hemp Cloth Diapers

Want to shock your friends and freak out your parents – tell them that not only are using prefold cloth diapers, you are actually using hemp cloth diapers! They might crack a quick joke about Cheech and Chong, or they might just look at you like you suggested a group hug for world peace.

But if they know cloth diapers, they will nod knowingly and welcome you to the club. When it comes to the world of babies and diapers, hemp cloth diapers rule. End of conversation.

Human beings have been using hemp for a long long time. We’ve made rope from it. We’ve made sails to power ships over the ocean. We have made shirts and socks and vests and hats and ties. You know that piece of paper down in Philadelphia on which the Declaration of Independence is written? That’s hemp.

In other words, when you’re talking hemp, you’re talking good old fashioned sense.

Hemp is an annual herbaceous plant. It’s bad rap comes from its cousin, marijuana. But as history makes perfectly clear, hemp doesn’t deserve the disdain of so many people.

In terms of cloth diapers, hemp is a winner. It grows in the earth and enjoys a reputation as a powerful natural fiber. It naturally lends itself to sustainable production methods.

It will easily outlast your cotton prefolds. Cotton cloth diapers are fine, but hemp is much more absorbent. And when you find yourself recycling those cotton – or synthetic fiber – diapers, hemp will still be doing double duty with your precious babe.

Need more persuading? Well, without any additives hemp diapers are naturally antifungal and naturally antibacterial. They are highly breathable – a quality that you and your baby will appreciate come hot summers or long car trips. They’re recyclable, of course, and non-allergenic.

In other words, what’s not to like?

Hemp cloth diapers might be a little trickier to get hold of, but don’t let that deter you. When it comes to cloth diapers, hemp is the natural Queen. You and your baby deserve the best, don’t you?
