When large amounts of certain foods manage to get inside the human stomach, they tend to produce a great deal of gas. At the same time, those foods initiate production by the lining tissues of copious amounts of gastric acid. The combination of gas and acid can cause the heart to experience an uncomfortable feeling.

That feeling is called heartburn. While drug stores carry lots of different pills that promise heartburn relief, you can save time and money by becoming familiar with the various home remedies for heartburn.

Anything that can dilute the gastric acid in the stomach can help to diminish the pain caused by the build-up of that strong fluid. Saliva can be used to dilute the contents of the digestive system. Try chewing sugarless gum. If you do not have any sugarless gum, then suck on a lozenge. However, if you find that you are sucking in lots of air, then consider using one of the alternative approaches.

Drinking lots of water can dilute the strong contents in the stomach. An alkaline substance counteracts the effect of any excess acidity. See if you have some baking soda in your home. Dissolve some in water, and then drink it.

While dilution of the contents in the digestive tract helps, it does not eliminate the amount of pressure in the region of the gut. The downing of a carbonated beverage can help to rid the gut of unwanted pressure.

If you have repeated bouts of heartburn, then think about having herbal tea or aloe vera juice on hand. If you smoke, you should make an effort to stop smoking. If you could afford to loose a few pounds, then set that as a goal. You will be rewarded with a decrease in the number of times when you need to deal with another “burning heart.” Many of these free heartburn remedies might only cause temporary relief. Consult your physician if your symptoms persist.
