When is the Right Time to Call a Lawyer?

For most people, calling a lawyer is the last thing they want to do, no matter what the situation. But, contrary to popular belief, there is a right time to call a lawyer, but that right time might not be the same in all circumstances. In this article, we’ll examine three different situations in which you might need an attorney, and when you should call one.

1. The Cops Want to Talk to You

This might be the most serious time when you need to think about calling an attorney. And here’s why – your liberty is at stake! What I mean is, if the cops are talking to you, it’s highly likely that they have a plan to eventually put you in jail. Whether you’ve been pulled over after having a couple of beers, are stopped walking down the street, or call them yourself, the time to call an attorney if the cops are talking to you is fifteen minutes ago.

2. You’ve Just Been in an Accident with a Semi-Truck

This may not happen very often, maybe it’s just a car that you’re in an accident with. Obviously, the time to call a truck accident attorney is not right when the accident happens. There are more important things to think about. There is, however, a right time to make that call. In this case, you want to be on the horn with your truck accident attorney before you talk to or sign anything related to any insurance company (you’re probably okay to talk to your own insurance company). Never sign anything without an attorney.

3. You Think You’re Going to Get Divorced

Getting divorced is always a dicey situation. When love turns sour, there is a lot more than just money involved – there’s emotion. Emotions can get very expensive if you aren’t careful. In my opinion (and this is just my opinion, remember), the perfect time to go out and get the best divorce lawyer is not right after the big fight. The only time to do it is if you know it’s going to be complicated and you need help, or you’re afraid your significant other might be running out to get his or her own divorce lawyer. If no kids are involved, for example, it’s often possible to get divorced without any lawyers involved.

There is definitely a right time and a wrong time to contact a lawyer in any given situation. I think at the end of the day it’s always better to do it too early rather than too late.
