Contrary to popular belief, erectile dysfunction is not a problem exclusively for older men. Yes, it is true, that the purely physical problems that can make it difficult to achieve an erection are more often found in men. However, a number of issues can affect your sex life, erection problems in young men is thus often caused by psychological issues.

Identifying the Cause
The first step to overcoming your erection problems should be to identify the cause. First, are your problems mainly physical or mental?

If you often wake up with a morning erection or if you have no problem achieving an erection when you are alone, your issue is most likely mental.

Psychological Issues Causing Erection Problems

Achieving an erection is very much mental, thus the number of potential problems is numerous. Maybe the most common for young men is performance anxiety.

The first time is a fabled experience. There is a lot of pressure, it seems in the moment, to perform well, both from society, your partner, and yourself. The last thing a young male wish, is to feel like less of a man. When the pressure is heavy on the shoulders, sweating ensues, and, more importantly, the blood tends to run to the head and to all the muscles except your penis. It is actually a defense mechanism, making the body prepare for danger. In this case, the defense mechanism works very much against you.

Other mental problems can be unresolved issues with your partner and previous bad experiences causing a vicious cycle.

How to Leave Your Mental Issues Behind

The solution to the mental problem of performance anxiety is simply to relax. On paper it is simple, but in practice it can be difficult. Leave all pressure behind you. Everybody fails to achieve an erection occasionally and it is in no way a catastrophe. Enjoy the moment. Don’t think but simply let instincts take over. When you are no longer in your head, the rest should come easy!
